International spring holiday Novruz was celebrated at SPbSUT

Novruz holiday, symbolizing the end of winter and the long-awaited awakening of nature, was celebrated on March 22 at our University. Russian and foreign students, students of the Preparatory Department, teachers and staff of the University became guests of the holiday.

The Council of Foreign Students is the main creative inspirer and organizer of the holiday. Novruz contributes to strengthening friendship between nations, promoting the values of peace, good neighborliness, mutual understanding.

Vice-Rector for Youth Policy and International Cooperation Nina Zhuravleva addressed with a welcoming speech to all participants of the event. She noted that SPbSUT students have always been able to value friendship and mutual assistance, preserve traditions and initiate new ones and be in touch with the future.

For more than 3000 years Novruz has been celebrated in the Balkans, the Middle East, the Caucasus, Central Asia, the countries of the Black Sea basin and other regions of the world. In Russia, this holiday is especially popular in Tatarstan, Bashkortostan and Dagestan.

The Council of Foreign Students has prepared various competitions, such as "Guess the country where Novruz is celebrated by the flag", "Collect a dish – Novruz kozhe", "Write a wish to a friend", a master class on weaving baubles, incendiary dances and traditional treats – baursak, Turkish delight, halva, chak-chak and chocolate "Turkish delight".

Writing names in Arabic aroused particular interest among students. Student of SPbSUT from Tunisia Mohammed Ben Gidria showed everyone with great pleasure their in Arabic and handed a piece of paper with hieroglyphs as a keepsake. The holiday ended with the performance of the musical group "ImiNami".
