Rector of SPbSUT became a speaker of the Forum "Smart Sustainable Cities: Past, Present and Future" of International Telecommunication Union. The event takes place in Minsk on April 19-20.

Ruslan Kirichek spoke about the role of Artificial Intelligence in smart cities. In particular, pre-trained AI models can be used in classification, identification, semantic processing, and object recognition.

«Artificial Intelligence technologies can be widely used to ensure public safety, generate and evaluate weather data, plan development, optimize production, monitor the environment, and manage traffic. All these forecasts can be built on the basis of collected data from sensors and Internet of Things devices.

It is important that ITU has developed a unified format for presenting data from Internet of Things devices for use in smart cities. This will allow us to develop an integrated approach for data processing and issuing short– and long-term forecasts," said Rector of SPbSUT.

Greetings on behalf of Minister of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus Konstantin Shulgin were read out at the opening ceremony. Regional Director for the CIS region of International Telecommunication Union Natalia Mochu, Director of Giprosvyaz Anton Alekseev, Heads of authorities and companies from Russia and Belarus spoke at the opening of the Forum.

SPbSUT has been participating in the Forum since 2019, when the event was held for the first time.
