SPbSUT at the Forum of the International Telecommunication Union on Smart Cities

On February 15th-16th, the fourth ITU Forum "Smart Sustainable Cities: Social, Economic and Managerial Components" was held in Minsk. Successful cases from concepts and strategies to the implementation of specific technological solutions for citizens, city management and business were presented at the site. Ruslan Kirichek, Head of the Department of Software Engineering and Computer Science, took part in the ITU Forum from SPbSUT.

The event brought together representatives of ministries and departments, regulatory authorities, municipalities, telecommunications operators, higher and general educational institutions, manufacturers of telecommunications equipment, research and design institutes, software developers and other interested organizations of member States, sector members and associate members of ITU.

Experts presented thematic reports on the social, economic and managerial aspects of "smart sustainable cities" in several sessions.

Ruslan Kirichek led the work of the section "Development of smart sustainable cities: ensuring favorable business conditions", and also prepared a report on the topic "Digital twins of smart sustainable cities infrastructure". The report presented current research conducted by employees and graduate students of the Department of Software Engineering and Computer Engineering, as well as the research and Testing Laboratory of innovative Infocommunications of Rostelecom PJSC.

In February 2019, the Forum of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) "Smart Sustainable Cities: Technological Trends, success Stories and Prospects" was held in Minsk for the first time. The organizers were the International Telecommunication Union together with JSC Giprosvyaz and with the support of the Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus. Together with the forum, the ITU Training "Key Performance Indicators for Smart Sustainable Cities in the context of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)" was held.

The event considered technological trends and prospects, security and privacy, standardization and key performance indicators in the context of achieving the SDGs. Presentations were made by representatives of the Government of Moscow, the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Belarus, the UNDP of Belarus, SPbSUT, the consortium BOMA, UN-Habitat, ITU, Huawei, Nokia and research organizations of the CIS region.

The event caused a wide response among the audience and has been held annually since then. The content of the forum is constantly being upgraded in accordance with the development of this direction in the world. Traditionally, meetings of ITU-T Regional Groups of Research Commissions for Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Transcaucasia are held together with the forum, where experts study in more detail the issues of standardization of technologies, as well as prepare contributions from countries for their subsequent protection at meetings of Research Commissions at ITU headquarters.
