At the end of October, Damascus State University (Syria), the Syrian Geographical Society in Damascus and the administration of Tartus hosted a number of events organized by the ANO "Center for Cultural Programs "Culture and Peace".

P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology, the Russian Academy of Sciences and the University of Damascus.
The main goal of the project is to restore and develop cultural, educational and scientific ties between Russia and Syria.
Nikolay Grudtsyn, Associate Professor of the Department of Infocommunication Systems, Head of the Information and Analytical Group of the Informatization Department, took part in the events in the areas of public geography and strategic spatial planning on behalf of SPbSUT.
Nikolay gave a course of lectures and held seminars on geoinformation technologies in the Department of Territorial Development and infrastructure development of the urban environment, and also held consultations on these topics in the Municipality of Old Damascus.
As a result of the meeting, contacts were established with representatives of the academic environment of Syria.
Given the complexity of the economic and political situation in Syria, the possibilities of cooperation are limited, but in the future it is possible to develop the direction of academic mobility, as well as participation in international expert activities on reconstruction projects of the country.
