From August 31st to September 2nd, Timothy Guillim, Dean of Davidson-Davie Community College (DDCC), USA, paid an official visit to SPbSUT. This is his second visit to our university. In 2019, Timothy came to SPbSUT to participate in a round table with representatives of Community colleges in the United States and the Fulbright Program in the Russian Federation, which was dedicated to the development of internationalization of education and increasing academic mobility. After the negotiations, SPbSUT and DDCC began educational cooperation. From November 2019 to May 2021, joint online classes were held in English.
During the current visit, Timothy Guillim met with Rector Sergey Bachevsky and handed over the agreement on cooperation in the field of education and science between SPbSUT and DDCC. The parties made proposals to hold joint online classes on the history of Russia and the United States in the 2021/2022 academic year, it is planned to hold a Summer School for DDCC students in 2022.
On September 1st, the Day of Knowledge, Timothy held an open lecture, where he told interesting and little-known facts about such states as Illinois, Florida and North Carolina. On Thursday, September 2nd, Dean met with SPbSUT students who took part in online meetings with students of the Davidson-Davie Community College. At the meeting, the students shared their impressions about participating in such classes, discussed the image of an ideal exchange student and talked about the difference in the mentalities of citizens of Russia and the United States.
We hope that SPbSUT and DDCC will have a fruitful and long-term cooperation, and students and teachers will have the opportunity to participate in exchange programs.
