SPbSUT at the ITU Development Bureau event

28 april 2021

In mid-April, the head of the International Cooperation Department, Irina Karimova, took part in the online meeting of the International Telecommunication Union "Know Your Members: Consultative session with Academy members of the ITU".

The event was addressed to academic and research organizations. The meeting was attended by representatives of universities in Kuwait, Mexico, Spain, India, Canada, and Switzerland. The purpose of the event was to get acquainted with the Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau, Doreen Bogdan-Martin, and the current and planned work of the Bureau. In addition, the meeting was an excellent opportunity to share experiences with ITU, establish new partnerships and discuss proposals for increasing the participation of members in the activities of the Telecommunication Development Bureau, including in the framework of existing study groups, the advisory group on Telecommunications development, as well as in the preparations for the World Conference on Telecommunications Development.

Irina Karimova spoke about the long-term successful cooperation between SPbSUT and ITU, the joint events held, the work of the university in the research commissions of the ITU standardization sector. Irina made proposals to expand the age limits for students and postgraduates to participate in the ITU youth initiative Generation Connect, as well as to conduct joint summer programs with ITU academic partners — universities from different countries.

It is worth noting that SPbSUT is an active participant in the scientific and educational initiatives of the International Telecommunication Union, and today the university will organize the International Day "Ladies in ICT" and the workshop "Virtual Exchanges as an alternative and additional form of academic mobility" (April 29th), which will also be held within the framework of ITU events.
