Novruz holiday was celebrated in SPbSUT

23 march 2022

On March 22nd, the SPbSUT celebrated Novruz – the New Year according to the Eastern calendar, personifying the arrival of spring and warmth. Traditionally, the event was organized by the Council of Foreign Students with the support of the Department of International Cooperation.

The holiday is national for a number of countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, India, Iran, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Macedonia, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Albania, as well as for some regions of Russia and Ukraine. It is worth noting that students from the above countries study at SPbSUT.

The guests of the event were Russian and foreign students, students of the preparatory department, teachers and staff of the university. They were offered five different contests:

"Two facts, one lie", where it was possible to show knowledge of traditions, customs and geography of different countries;
"Compose a flag" – it was necessary to assemble a flag from individual elements;
"Prepare a national dish" - in this competition it was required to guess which ingredients a certain national dish consists of;
"The Great translator" - here it was necessary to translate into Russian two words from the languages of the countries celebrating Novruz;
"Matching country-capital" - the task was to name the capitals of the countries celebrating the New Year according to the Eastern calendar.
For the correct answers in the contests, the participants received a treat in the form of a national dish of the countries celebrating Novruz, and one of the most desired prizes were famous treats from Kazakhstan: baursak and chocolate "Turkish Delight". Those interested could also dance to the music and try to play the nagaraa, the national drum of Azerbaijan.
