On February 11, Head of the Department of History and Regional Studies Anton Borisovich Hecht took part in the International Round Table "Industry 4.0 Technologies in the Arctic", organized on the basis of the Department of Social Sciences of the Humanities Institute of Peter the Great St. Petersburg State University.
A. B. Gecht made a report on "Achievements and problems of digitalization of the Faroe Islands". Anton Borisovich told the participants and guests of the event about the specifics of the peripheral region located in Northern Europe, which has managed to go from a fishing archipelago to a space with an ultramodern level of quality and speed of data transmission via the Internet over several decades.
This was made possible thanks to the close cooperation of the Faroese authorities with the Chinese concern Huawei, which represents both the economic and potential political interests of this power in the Arctic zone, which today is a space of active international expansion and diverse competition.
These circumstances determine the research relevance of the report presented at the round table.
