SPbSUT launched a great Arctic journey on October 28, 2022. Nine people – two employees and seven Master's students will test the developments of SPbSUT in the village of Dixon of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, located on the shore of the Kara Sea. The expedition will last from October 29 to November 10.

The University team will test the operation of complex technical devices. This is an automatic portable electroencephalograph, a seismic signal analyzer and a transceiver based on LoRa technology. The researchers will not only test the equipment, but also keep a diary of the expedition.

The team includes:

  •  Andrey Stepanov - Expedition Leader;
  •  Daria Kuzmina -  Head of Video Technology Group “Media Center’’;
  •  Arseniy Losev - Technician of the audio technology group at “Media Center”;
  •  Alexandra Gortsueva-  student of the R-21m group;
  •  Alexander Zapayshchikov - student of the RT-11m group;
  • Evgenia Karanova-  student of the RT-12m group;
  • Victoria Konovalova - student of the IKTB-17m group;
  • Kirill Tafintsev - student of the IKTI-25m group;
  • Nikolai Shashkov - student of the EP-21m group.

The trip became possible thanks to the victory of the team of the SPbSUT Master’s Institute in the grant competition of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation “Rediscovering Russia” of the platform “Russia is a country of opportunities”.

Vice-Rector for Educational Work and Public Relations of SPbSUT Irina Alekseenko:

“When our students and undergraduates win federal competitions, it is a huge victory and joy! Our University made an expedition to the northern latitudes in 2011, and today we are sending our guys on a completely new expedition. This will allow us to assert our primacy in space exploration and achieve important scientific and technical results.

I would like to express my gratitude to the Master's Institute - Alexander Buchatsky and Andrey Stepanov for the initiative and perseverance that were shown in organizing this work, since it was very difficult to win this competition with a huge number of applications from the strongest universities in Russia. Thanks to the victory, our students are embarking on a wonderful journey today. I would like to wish the participants of the expedition to achieve all the goals that you have set for yourself, and return to us with victory, with new results! "

Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Arctic Affairs of St Petersburg Andrey Anokhin:

“This event is not just the University, but citywide: St Petersburg students are going on a scientific expedition! We work very closely with your University and proceed from the basic principle: if student youth are not involved in the Arctic state agenda, any strategies until 2030-2035 will not be implemented. The extent to which the state policy within the framework of the Arctic competencies will be implemented depends only on the student's potential.

Petersburg has a special role - it has a very serious, large-scale scientific potential, and we associate the future of our country, its progress and breakthrough with the Arctic. All this should be filled with student enthusiasm, ideas, views. The Arctic and students is a new dialogue under the auspices of the state. We want to hear the students, we want you to know what you will do. Here is self-realization, and romance, and a great history of our country in the Arctic region.

Now about 15-20 universities are joining our work within the framework of the concept of "Arctic feat of the people." Speaking of feat, we mean not only history, but also the future. Good luck!"

Director of the SPbSUT Master's Institute Alexander Buchatsky:

“The history of our University is being written today, and the history of Master's Institute is a little more than 3 years old. We created the Institute to emphasize the role of undergraduates – these are the best of our best students. We have organized a special conference of undergraduates, which has been successfully held for three years and has turned from a regional conference into an All-Russian one. We have offered special scholarships for undergraduates that emphasize their special status and encourage achievements. My team and I took part in the intercollegiate accelerator, returned with a victory and realized that we could move on. So this expedition turned out! A lot has been done by Alexander Stepanov, who participates in many events and does not stop there. The road will be mastered by the walking! Good luck!"

SPbSUT Vice-Rector of Science Alexander Shestakov met with Expedition Leader Andrey Stepanov at the St Petersburg College of Telecommunications on the eve of the expedition. Alexander Shestakov said parting words and handed over the flag of SPbSUT for transfer to the administration of the village of Dixon.
