English lesson together with American students

On November 26, the first joint English lesson for 3rd year students of faculty of Humanities and American students from the Davidson Community College (North Carolina, USA) took place online.

The lesson was organized in the format of a bilateral discussion of the stereotypes of our nations about each other. On both our and the American side, such a conversation aroused genuine interest, especially when students found common topics - they talked about music, pop culture, films, sports, college students, the difficulties of youth life and ambitions. The children managed to discuss the American dream, ideas about success, home and family, lifestyle and nutrition, the relationship of a national character with the climate. Russian and American students expressed a great desire to continue to participate in such classes, as well as to meet in person as part of the events held by our educational institutions.

The first step towards cooperation with colleagues from North Carolina was the visit of a delegation of US community colleges to St. Petersburg State University of Telecommunications in April this year, during which US representatives expressed great interest in the international projects programs of SPbSUT.

In the future, it is planned to conduct similar classes in other subjects.

We are grateful to Timothy Gwillim, Deputy Dean of the School of Arts, Science and Education, Sylvia Walters, teacher of the communicative skills development course, Ksenia V. Zemlyakova, Associate Professor of the Foreign Languages Department, and colleagues from the international office for a great start to a new collaboration!
