Faculty of Telecommunication Networks, Switching Systems and Computer Technology (TN, SS & CT)

The faculty trains students in the following specialties: The faculty trains specialists for the most important communication companies of St. Petersburg and Russia, like North-Western Telecom, Giprosvyaz SPb, Leningrad communications branch institute (LONIIS), Federal state unitary company “Rubin”, Peterstar, Megafon, Sovintel, St. Petersburg Paystations, etc.

Graduates of the faculty work for the world leading telecommunication companies, which are actively developing on Russian market: Alcatel, Cisco, Italtel, Lucent Technologies, NEC, Nortel, Siemens.

Communication companies establish special scholarships for the most talented students of the faculty with the purpose of future recruitment.

The faculty has established strong ties with German telecommunication institutes of higher education. Every year from 7 to 10 students participate in linguistic and professional training in partner institutions, study during academic semester, and prepare graduation projects. A “Double diploma” program is put into practice: the faculty graduates receive two diplomas " diploma of the University and diploma of a foreign institution " which offers him new prospects in life.

The faculty puts into practice a second higher education program. An elaborated concept of receiving second higher education is based on the maximum use of accelerated training forms and individual training methods, and on organization of profound training in compliance with professional requests of specialists. The period of studies on this program is three years, including five semesters of theoretical studies and one semester of preparing and presenting graduation work.

Specialty 210406 Telecommunication networks & switching systems
The curriculum of this specialty is oriented toward training of universal specialists in all the issues and principles of construction of communication networks, including the courses on designing, control and technical operation, issues of designing, control and operation of digital switching centers, issues of control of sophisticated telecommunication systems and their software support.

Specialty 230105 Automated systems and computer software support
Graduates of this specialty are trained for fulfilling the following tasks: designing, development, test, and operation of software of applied, instrumental, and system-defined nature on basis of up-to-date methods, instruments, and technologies of creation of software product; development and operation of software for automation of designing of telecommunication centers and networks; quality evaluation and modernization of telecommunication systems software with a purpose of improving their reliability and efficiency.

This specialty graduates can work in communication enterprises and organizations, engaged in development, designing, and operation of devices and systems of information transmission and distribution.

Specialty 230102 Automation of Information Processing and Control
Graduates, trained in this specialty, can work for businesses and different organizations that use modern information technologies for preparation and processing of information in computing systems, communication centers and automated control systems.

Students study the following subjects: systems and networks of data teleprocessing; information technology; mathematical simulators of information processes and control; data and knowledge bases; interaction of human and computing system; system analysis and operations research; programming; operational systems; task-level computing systems.

Training at the faculty is conducted according to bachelor-master system. The first level of studies that students take within the department of fundamental training lasts for four years and is concluded by obtaining an academic degree of bachelor of technical sciences (course Telecommunications). It includes studies of fundamental disciplines of physical and mathematical cycle, theory of telecommunications, computing and microprocessor technology. Bachelors are trained in production organization and management methods under market economy conditions.

The second level " master studies " lasts for two years and includes specialization in the chosen field of technical sciences.

The faculty has 4 chairs:
  • Chair of switching systems and information distribution.
Head of the chair " Professor Goldstein B.S.
  • Chair of discrete information processing and transmission.
Head of the chair " Professor Kognovitzky O.S.
  • Chair of communication networks.
Head of the chair " Professor Yanovsky G.G.
  • Chair of digital computing technology and informatics.
