Faculty of Radio Communication, Television and Multimedia Technology (RC, TV & MT) The faculty trains students in the following engineer specialties:
On the basis of problem laboratory for radio control and chair of metrology, standardization, and certification , a study laboratory for certification and control of telecommunication equipment is established. Extension courses for specialists of radio-frequency service are regularly held there. A study laboratory for mobile communication networks design is organized at the chair of radio transmitting equipment and facilities of mobile communication on the basis of PC network with installed up-to-date design complexes, based on the digital area maps. In the laboratory, up-to-date automatic design complexes for systems of communication with mobile objects are presented and are used by students. These are "Baltika" and "Onega", which are developed by LONIIR and INFOTEL Company for solving designing problems. At the chair of TV, scientific research in the fields of video equipment, transmission and encoding of images, stereoscopic television are held in the laboratories of image digital processing and video equipment. At the chair of digital processing of signals , studies of perspective methods and means of digital processing of signals in systems of radio broadcasting, television, and mobile communications are held. Scientific activity of the chair is dedicated to research in the fields of voice compression, multiple speed processing of signals, development of methods of voice synthesis and algorithms of digital processing of signals. Specialty 210405 Radio communication, television and Multimedia Technology This is the "oldest" specialty. As the faculty itself, the specialty has not changed its name but has only added the word "Television" to "Radio communication and radio broadcasting", as it was called before. In the framework of this specialty, engineers with broad competences are trained to develop and operate equipment for radio transmitting, radio receiving, and television centers, sound recording studios, radio broadcasting complexes, radio communication systems, including digital satellite systems, cellular communication systems. Specialty 210402 Facilities of communication with mobile objects Objects of professional activity of engineers of facilities of communication with mobile objects are devices designed for forming, transforming, and transmitting information through radio-channels of mobile communication of general, specialized, and autonomous use, including satellite systems of mobile radio communication. Specialty 210312 Audio and visual equipment Specialists in audio and visual equipment are trained for developing and operating professional equipment of show-business, television and cinema equipment designed for forming, computer processing, editing, and reproduction of picture and sound signal, animation, recording and storage, as well as distribution of audio- and video-signals through Internet using multimedia technologies. In addition to three engineer specialties, the faculty trains students for master's degrees in the field of Telecommunications (550400). Master's degree can be prepared in two professional-educational programs: 210400 "Antennas and super high frequency equipment" and 210400 "Radio and television systems and equipment". Master's degree program "Antennas and super high frequency equipment" is realized on demand of ZAO "Svetlana-Elektronpribor". One of the features of specialists training at this faculty is a purposeful training of specialists on demand of enterprises. At this faculty, a profound training of students of specialty "Facilities of communication with mobile objects" on demand of the North-West branch of OAO "Megafon" is carried out for a few years already. Students listen to lectures according to the program coordinated with the enterprise, complete their degree works on the subjects interesting for the customer. Thus the enterprise receives an opportunity of recruiting new employees who have purposeful training. The program is very popular among students. Starting from 2004 similar contracts are signed with Russian institute of high-powered radio engineering and ZAO "Delta Telecom". At present time, the faculty has 7 chairs:
