The faculty trains students in the following specialties:
Specialty 030600 Public relations
Profession of specialist in the field of public relations, which has been accepted and has conquered popularity in the western countries long ago, is now actively mastered and developed in Russia , where brilliant perspectives are open for it.
Public relations (PR) is a profession integrating knowledge of both concrete subjects - psychology, sociology, philosophy, political science, economics, etc., and interdisciplinary courses - communication theory, management, social relations, etc. Thus, public relations is a social science, which requires broad knowledge and studies of social relations, is a component and integral part of management, is the widest complex of communicational relation between organizations and community. PR as a science and art combines a system of knowledge and skills of a wide circle of humanities and natural sciences, as well as technique and know-how of a specialist for their effective use in practice.
The field of activity of specialists in public relations includes:
- establishment of relations with state institutions and mass media
- analysis and control of public opinion, control of company reputation
- creating relationship inside the company and realization of its external relations
- management of crisis situations
- organizing exhibitions, presentations, competitions, lotteries, festivals; creation of public organizations and associations, club work.
According to state standard training of students in the humanities faculty of the university is conducted for 5 years, upon completion of which graduates receive state diploma of specialist in public relations.
During the entire process of studying students study two foreign languages: English and second European language (German or French). This enables them not only to speak foreign languages fluently, but also to receive a qualification, necessary for work in the sphere of international business relations.
Students also get different administrative, communicative, journalistic knowledge, knowledge of principles and skills, necessary for public relations specialist in his professional activity.
Specialty 032301 Regional studies
Regional studies are complex studies of a corresponding world region and its population: history and ethnography, economy and politics, science and culture, religion, language and literature, traditions and values. One of the most promising regions of the world from the point of view of development of telecommunication services is North-Western Europe - Scandinavia and Finland.
Specialist in regional studies can act as an advisor, expert, or consultant in the field of regional studies, interpreter of language of region studied. Thanks to profound knowledge in the sphere of humanities, general and special professional disciplines, as well as in the field of communication, specialist in regional studies is able to contribute to strengthening and promoting St. Petersburg firms on the regional market of telecommunication services.
Students study the following groups of subjects:
- general humanities and social-economic subjects: culturology, psychology and pedagogy, history, philosophy, economics, sociology, law, etc.;
- foreign languages: a language of region - Finnish/Swedish and English (languages are studied during the entire period of studies. This enables students not only to speak language fluently, but also to receive a qualification, necessary for work in the sphere of international business relations);
- natural sciences, a special attention among which is assigned to computer training (courses Informatics and mathematics, Information technologies in organization of work and management of enterprise);
- general professional subjects, related to study of regional special features, history, literature, policy, economy and cultural heritage of Scandinavian countries, as well as to technique of international relations and diplomacy;
- special subjects: world economy, international law, regional and national security, legal systems of Scandinavian countries, diplomacy, negotiating, etc.;
- subjects that reflect main issues, prospects of development, and specific character of the field of telecommunications.
Specialist of regional studies is competent in the following: he knows political history of the region studied, particular features of formation of its ethnic and national balance, traditions and standards of socio-political and social-economic life and activity, particular features of ecological development and participation in the international division of labor; he understands basic issues of present foreign policy and national security of Russia and of the region studied; he is fluent in the language of a country studied; he masters techniques and methods of information collection, storage and processing, using electronic computer equipment, computer application programs; he masters fundamentals of scientific analysis and prediction of different phenomena and processes; he is prepared for team work; he is familiar with methods of management; he is capable to find and take administrative decisions.
Material resources of the HF include: linguistic center, equipped with linguistic laboratories, special lecture rooms with audio and video equipment, computer classes with Internet access, study TV training center, unique TV laboratories.
