Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM)

The faculty trains students in the specialty:

• 060800 "Economics and management at communication enterprise"

There are two specializations at the faculty:

• electronic business,
• organization and planning of foreign-economic activity.

Graduates of FEM have qualification of "economist-manager" and possess diploma of state standard. An economist-manager who has graduated from FEM can work in financial and economic, marketing, administrative, scientific research, and planning structures of different private and public enterprises.

The faculty has close contacts with the leading telecommunication enterprises of St. Petersburg and renders its graduates assistance in job placement.

Specialization "Electronic business" is absolutely focused on demands of big companies that possess and develop communication facilities and information systems to support their activity. Training program provides for profound study of www-technologies in organization of business, information resources of Internet, bases of construction of local and global computer networks, information facilities for support of electronic business, web-design, Internet marketing and advertising, multimedia facilities, organization and planning of electronic business. Such specialists can be involved in both maintenance and modernization of the existing information systems and in development of new projects and their feasibility study.

Specialization "Organization and planning of foreign-economic activity" offers profound study of such courses as world economic system, international currency, credit and financial relations, international law, economic geography, etc. The program is aimed at the detailed study of two foreign languages (English – required, French or German - optionally). Students, who are trained in this specialization, can participate in international student exchange with Germany , France , Finland , be a trainee and study some courses at the universities of France Telecom and Deutsche Telecom.

The faculty has four chairs:

• Chair of economic theory and business fundamentals.

• Chair of management and simulation in social and economic systems.
  Head of the chair – Assistant Professor Kotov V.I.
• Chair of economics and management in the field of communications.
  Head of the chair – Professor Makarov V.V.
• Chair of information technologies in economics.
  Head of the chair – Assistant Professor Arzumanyan Y.V.

The faculty has up-to-date laboratories, including laboratories of information technologies, of simulation, of informatics and diagnostics, of video-training and management games, of telecommunication technology. Laboratories are equipped with up-to-date computers, connected to local faculty network and Internet, as well as with telephone, facsimile, Telex, cellular network, trunking and pager communication facilities.

Chief teachers of the faculty have a long working experience. Many of them had training abroad; some have a teaching experience in universities of the USA and Germany . The faculty staff are the leading lecturers in programs of retraining of specialists of North-West region of Russia . Practically all the teachers participate in major projects, carried out on demand of public and private companies. Many of them are authors of textbooks and teaching manuals.

Different forms of training are provided at the faculty's departments:

• full-time department
• part-time (evening) department
• department of correspondence study courses
• accelerated training
• retraining of specialists.

There is also a program of receiving parallel second higher education degree.
